My partner and I booked our ski holiday in Andorra through Thomas Cook. We didn't really know what to expect from the chalet or from the Grandvalira ski resort. It all exceeded our expectations.
We were there over new year. The chalet was very friendly.
The chalet hosts were a couple and were very friendly and helpful. They always made sure we had everything we wanted.
We got a decent breakfast in the morning - croissants, toast, cereal, ham, cheese etc. With a cooked breakfast on Saturday and new years day. We bought bread and cheese from the supermarket downstairs to make sandwiches on the slopes as we were on a budget and a small pizza cost £10 up the mountains (with the pound being so weak at the minute). After a day of skiing, we would come back to afternoon tea and very welcome cake. Any cake left over we could take as part of our lunch the next day. At 7pm a 3course dinner would be served comprising of a fab soup, a hearty main (shepherds pie/lasagne/roast etc,) and a simple pud - they were also very good at catering for all different needs and they didn't skimp on the wine. All 21 guests sat round the same table which was very sociable.

There was a large lounge downstairs, but it wasn't used that often. The only downside of the chalet was the rooms.
They were pretty pokey. We had two single beds that were different heights so not ideal for turning into a double.
There was a built in wardrobe and absolutely no room for mess - about 2 foot at the end of the bed. There was an ensuite shower room. I was hoping for a bath at the end of the day, but the shower was very warm and powerful, despite being 0.5mx0.5m. There was a very effective radiator in the room too, which was good for drying all the gear. We also had free use of a ski locker downstairs, saving us the 60E for a locker down by the gondola station.
It was only a 5-10minute walk down the slope to the gondola station (but a bit of a hike back up wearing ski boots and carrying skis after a long day skiing). Everything was so conveniently located. Lots of bars to spend new years eve in, cafes and restaurants that weren't too over priced. The chalet hosts had one night off a week, so we went to Hotel Bruxelles down the road to have our meal - 12E for an excellent, big 3 course meal, 5E for a fanta!
We went to Hotel Piolets for an afternoon of Spa-ing. Swimming pool, sauna, outdoor jacuzzi, steam room. It cost 20E for the day. It was worth it as it really helps you ease the muscles and relax. The skiing was better than I expected.
I'm a confident skier but wasnt looking for anything too extreme. There were some really brilliant blues and reds and some terrifying blacks. The full lift pass covers 6 regions - more than enough for the week. The ski school was very good and my partner moved from beginners to advanced within the week. Overall, an amazing ski holiday and an amazing new year.
