Here’s how to use Google Drive on Windows 10 PC to store, sync and share your documents, pictures, music and videos. Downloading & Installing Google Drive There are three ways to use Google’s cloud storage service.
Google Drive is a cloud storage that was launched by Google in April 2012. In comparison to data storage devices, such as DVD, CD, USB, cloud storage is easier to access and safer to use. Therefore, cloud storage services adapted millions of users immensely. It is especially useful for creating file backups, thus preventing data loss after a system crash or virus attack. Users highly appreciate cloud storage because the data kept in it can be accessed from any computer or another device that has an Internet connection.
Last, but not least advantage of keeping data online is related to the file sharing capabilities, which is why not only individuals prefer using Drive, but also big business. Google Drive remains the leader of cloud storage service from the beginning of its release. Even though there are lots of competing online storage services, Google offers an excellent relation between security, services and free space obtainment, which is why it does not leave the leading positions. However, sometimes even the best things fail to stand out the purpose, and Google Drive is not an exception. Quite many people have reported that Google Drive won’t sync in Windows 10. This issue springs up on Windows 10 systems that have recently been upgraded from the earlier versions, usually Windows 7 and 8. Unfortunately, the reason why this is Google Drive fails to sync in Windows 10 is not clear, but to fix that, you can try a couple of things.
Disable antivirus and Windows Firewall. To repair damaged system, you have to purchase the licensed version of Reimage Reimage. In many cases, antivirus programs and Windows Firewall blocks the syncing. Therefore, to fix broken sync with Google Drive in Windows 10 try to disable your antivirus and turn off Windows Firewall. For this purpose, you have to:. Right-click Win key and go to Control Panel. Go to System and Security and click on Windows Firewall.
Then, click on Turn Windows Firewall on or off option and set it to Off. Once done, find the icon of your antivirus in the notifications area. Right-click it and disable it.
To check if it has been disabled completely, click Ctrl + Shift + ESC and look for the related processes on the Task Manager. If there are any, click on each of them and select End Task. Reboot the PC. If Google Drive fails to sync, after all, try to reinstall it.
Reinstall Google Drive. To repair damaged system, you have to purchase the licensed version of Reimage Reimage.
To reset Google Drive’s services, you should reinstall it completely. For this purpose, you have to:. Close Google Drive and log out of your account. After that, right-click on the Win key and select Control Panel. On the Add/Remove programs list, find Google Drive, click it, and select Uninstall. Navigate to the local storage and rename Google Drive folder. After that, go to the Play Store or another legitimate download source and download the latest Google Drive’s version.
Hopefully, syncing is now working properly. If not, you may also try to install the older version of Google Drive. You just have to perform the same steps as listed above except finding the previous version of the cloud.
NOTE: before you download and install another version of Google Drive, it’s advisable to run a scan with to clean registries. I'd recommend you give it a go; not on your main computer, but if you have an old computer that's available, take it for a test drive. New W10 builds are being released regularly, and it's a breath of fresh air compared with the pain of W8. Free download from Last week when I wrote the first post, everything was working great - however now an update to either Windows or Chrome has stopped Chrome from working which is exasperating. It'll pass, but I'll leave W10 on the shelf for a few days until Chrome is back.

Eoin, 'the Drive team have clearly chosen to focus on just popular OSs; maybe there is more of a case for a Linux client than a W10 client.' You are an optimist.Win 10 will be much more popular on the desktop than Linux.:-) and 'We'd have to presume that this is Google just sitting back and not putting enough people working on Drive for W10.' On what grounds? And anyway, when Win 10 is released commercially I expect that the recommendation will be to do a clean installation, not over the beta-builds.
TBey 9/3/2015, 22:28 น. Update - Got Google Drive to sync by uninstalling it and renaming the Google Drive folder. Then I reinstalled the GD client and the sync completed.I'm on Windows 10 64-bit Preview build 10122. I updated from Windows 7. The Google Drive client has not worked for the last several builds, although I can't remember when it stopped working. After uninstalling/reinstalling the GD client, it started to sync but still failed after the compares. I have about 19K files in GD.
It starts to sync and then throws an error: An unknown issue occurred and Google Drive needs to quit. Error: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'find'. Taggen 9/6/2015, 19:45 น. I had the same problem. Here is what worked for me:1. Uninstall Google Drive using the 'Uninstall a program' option in the Control Panel.2. Reboot your machine.
I didn't reboot on the first 2 tries, and Drive would not start up.3. Install Google Drive (download from google and run) after the reboot4. After the install, the Google drive setup will begin. Atleast, it did for me.5. Pay attention to the setup screens, the very last screen will have an option for 'Advanced Setup'.
I skipped this on the first go-around and had to disconnect and reconnect my account to get back to this screen.6. On the advanced setup screen, change the location of your Drive folder to your existing Google Drive folder.7. Sit back and let Google Drive synch. It may take a while depending on the size of you Drive folder.Rebooting my machine after the uninstall was the key step for me. I tried reinstalling several times without the reboot and Google Drive would just not start.I hope this works for the others having this issue. Cristian Dascalu 20/8/2015, 14:56 น. I have been using Google Drive with Windows10 for about 2 weeks.
I have had repeated issues of the icon in the task bar opening up to a grey rectangular box rather than the usual 2 options of either viewing the files in Google Drive or viewing Google Drive on the web. It has happened on 2 separate desktops now. I have uninstalled and reinstalled on both. It works fine for about a week, and then I get that empty grey box again. I have searched and can't find anyone else that has had this problem. I finally gave up.
I'll just have to go find my Google Drive the long way.:( Eoin Ryan 22/8/2015, 2:36 น. It's 10 months after I first posted this thread, and now I'm at the point where I want to upgrade 2 workstations that were just purchased to Windows 10 before they go into use. And I can't because Google and Microsoft aren't playing nice together. I imagine the intermittent problems reported are as a result of the Evergreen patching model that MS have adopted. I've no qualms with that, it's the same patching model that Google are using for Drive, but Microsoft really need to learn how to not break things. And Google should be doing better coding and testing and releases especially at this time as people move over. The reason I posted this when I first tested W10 last year was in the hope that any problems might be fixed by the time I had to use W10 on a production machine.
Unfortunately they are not. If anyone finds any good work arounds (eg, maybe slowing down the Windows updates; on the Insider program you could be on the slow ring or the fast ring), please let us all know! Gwira Safari Henry 26/8/2015, 3:56 น. So I've been getting similar problems. Got W10 right when it was available.
For days it was working fine, then all of a sudden, it was no longer syncing. Eventually, it completely gave up on me, and finally I decided to completely uninstall the google drive and reinstall it again.
As soon as I tried to reinstall it, there happened to be an error code 1603 problem. Tried Kinit Salvi's way but even after my 6th reboot the error still popped up. I even completely deleted the whole Google Drive folder (not even renaming it) but it still wouldn't work. I guess I'll just keep on rebooting until finally it works. Anyone else got a similar problem and found a solution please tell me. Dewbrew 11/9/2015, 10:16 น. Even after the full release of Windows 10, I had the same problem.
Google Drive just won't work. The Fix:1. Thankfully I have the desktop search application Everything installed on my computer.2. I turned off my computer and turned it on again.3. I then uninstalled Google Drive, which was not working anyway. In fave, it froze my computer every time I started it. I always had to turn off the computer by holding down the power button.4.
With Google Drive uninstalled, I launched Everything.5. In the search bar, I typed Google Drive to see every left over of Google Drive.6. I then proceeded to delete every file that has 'googledrive', 'Googledrive', or GoogleDrive' in it. Some files could not be deleted directly because they were in the Windows Prefetch folder. I had to open the file path and access the Prefetch folders in both the Windows and the Windows.old folders. I deleted everything that has 'googledrive', 'Googledrive', or GoogleDrive' in it.Once the above had been done, I then went ahead to reinstall Google Drive from Google website. There was no problem noted. Now Google Drive works flawlessly.
Mohammad Almutereen 8/10/2015, 11:29 น. I get a 'error 1603: Fatal error during installation' on a new W10 install (clean W8.1 install and then upgrade through MS official procedure to W10).
I tried running googledrivesync.exe as administrator but I get the same error. The error is actually not fatal at all, as I am still here writing this reply. It is just annoying to be getting odd error messages that tell you nothing - when will the geeks who make this stuff ever learn?
I had Google Drive on my Win 7 Netbook, and went through a Windows 10 upgrade, after which my Google Sync stopped working. I uninstalled Google Drive and then reinstalled from the linki in the Drive web page for the 'Drive for MAC/PC'. Now the sync is not working and does not show in my tooltray. I've taken the option from the 'All Apps' in the start and reinstalled and rebooted a couple times, but nothing seems to be happening. Windows shows clocking for a minute or so but no icon in the tray and sync is not happening. I have an ACER Aspire One (722), 64 bit machine. Gert van der Meijden 2/1/2016, 9:04 น.
First let me say I've been using Google-Drive (G-D) for several years on my Mac and Android devices and its always worked well, even through platform updates. I've had VM's running on my Mac as WS2k3 and W7 which also worked well.i've recently needed to host a server to support my data integration and management consulting work and just rolled out a W10-Pro server.Config'd G-D on the device with sync for server and db backups as an off-site alternative.
So I'm simply using the internal Win software to configure backups, raid external data and the user files into a daily backup that gets ported to Drive on a sync'd basis. So I'd say yeah.
